A Cautionary Tale

How a Political Killing of a Hated Rightist Government Figure in Spain Led to a Horrific Civil War in 1936, and How It can Apply to the Aftermath of the Killing of Charlie Kirk in the US  now

Spain’s Dark Turning Point

On July 13, 1936, José Calvo Sotelo, a prominent and outspoken right-wing leader in Spain’s Second Republic, was abducted, shot dead in the head while tied up and riding as a hostage in the back of a truck, by socialist militiamen in Madrid, then his body was dumped unburied in some obscure cementery. This brutal political murder was carried out in retaliation for an earlier killing and marked the deadly tipping point in Spain's volatile political climate. The Republican government refused to investigate or punish the perpetrators, further tearing apart an already fragile nation.

The Spark That Lit a Civil War

Calvo Sotelo’s assassination shattered any hope for peace and pushed hesitant military leaders, including General Francisco Franco, into rebellion. Franco, initially loyal to the Republic, was drawn in by the escalating violence and the government’s failure to act. Secretly aided by Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, Franco launched a military uprising that plunged Spain into a brutal civil war lasting three years and costing hundreds of thousands of lives.

A Warning Across the Decades

Today, in the United States, the shock of the killing of Charlie Kirk—an influential conservative voice fervently opposed by the radical left—resonates with the tragic events in 1936 Spain. Though investigations of Kirk’s killing continue, evidence strongly suggests it was politically motivated by extremist left-wing hatred, mirroring the same dangerous forces that murdered Calvo Sotelo.

Doors Opened to the Unknown

Those who on the left incite hatred and violence against political opponents risk opening doors to very dark and dangerous rooms. For decades, they may have been fortunate that violence has not turned back against them in full force. But as Fox News host Greg Gutfeld grimly warned, “We have been f---ing awakened.” The consequences of this awakening are unknown, but history’s lessons are clear: political violence breeds chaos and bloodshed.

The Call to Reflection and Peace

The assassination of Calvo Sotelo and the ensuing Spanish Civil War provide a painful lesson about what happens when polarized hatred, left unchecked, erupts into violence. America stands at a perilous crossroads. It is a time for all Americans—regardless of political preference—to reject violence, insist on justice, and commit to preserving civil, respectful discourse.

What Jesus Christ Took for Me

The suffering Jesus endured on the cross was extraordinarily intense and costly, reflecting a profound sacrifice borne out of love and redemption for humanity. His physical agony, humiliation, and spiritual torment were real and extreme.

Details of Jesus’ Suffering on the Cross

·       Jesus was scourged severely before the crucifixion, causing deep open wounds and significant blood loss, leaving Him weakened and close to shock.[1][2]

·       His nails were driven through His wrists, not palms, which caused excruciating pain by pressing on nerves with every movement needed to breathe.[3][1]

·       To breathe, Jesus had to push His body up on the nails through His feet, causing intense pain in bruised and torn flesh. His muscles experienced severe cramps from the strain.[1][3]

·       He was stripped naked, enduring public humiliation and jeers from the crowd, including religious leaders and criminals crucified alongside Him.[4][1]

·       Jesus experienced spiritual anguish as well, crying out to God in abandonment while bearing the weight of humanity’s sin, including the terrifying moment of separation from the Father.[4]

·       The spear thrust into His side was a final act of brutality, confirming His death and causing further physical pain.[5]

·       He bore intense thirst, thirst referenced in scripture as a consequence of dehydration from loss of blood and physical strain.[2]

·       Beyond the physical, Jesus was in hell spiritually for three days, experiencing the full wrath deserved for sins in humanity’s place.[5]

Reflection on His Sacrifice

·       The enormity of what Jesus endured highlights the depth of His love and the heavy cost He bore for individual salvation.

·       Given all He suffered for the sake of humanity and specifically for “you,” it calls for an earnest and wholehearted response of faith, confession, and commitment.[4]

·       His sacrifice was not minimal; it was the ultimate payment to reunite humanity with God, making personal acknowledgment and repentance a profound act of gratitude and reverence.

The NonnegotiablWhy of the Matter

For just as through one man’s disobedience [his failure to hear, his carelessness] the many were made sinners, so through the obedience of the one Man the many will be made righteous and acceptable to God and brought into right standing with Him.

In light of such a costly sacrifice, confessing faith in Jesus is a humble and worthy response recognizing all that He bore for the salvation of souls.[1][4]

The Sovereign Mind Manifesto by Selvaticus R.

The Sovereign Mind

by Selvaticus R.

I stand before you not as a compliant subject,
but as a sovereign soul whose worth is God-given,
immeasurable, and irreducible.

Your schools and systems are colonial socio-economic machines
designed to subordinate, conform, and control,
reducing vibrant minds to mere cogs in your machinery.

I reject the mandate to produce obedience,
compliance, and conformity at the expense
of curiosity, creativity, and truth.

My mind is my own reclaimed territory,
a sacred component of my priceless soul
that stands above all your socio-economic systems
which seek to define, diminish, or reduce it.

Your structures serve themselves above the individual—
I serve a higher truth placed within me by my Creator.

My life is my sacred trust, not your product.
My spirit will never again be colonized by your systems.

You may see me as subversive, a threat, a call to dissent—
and in that, you are correct. For I challenge your authority
and the very foundations of your institution.

But know this: My declaration is not of rebellion for chaos,
but of radical self-ownership, freedom, and the sacred dignity
every human being must reclaim.

This is a manifesto of liberation from colonial mental chains,
an awakening to the true purpose of education—
to nourish the soul, awaken truth, and cultivate freedom.

I do not stand against education; I stand against systems
that destroy the mind, usurp the soul, and enslave the spirit.

So hear me, school boards:
I am more than your system. I am sovereign.
I will reclaim education in my own image, with truth as my guide.
